Pimples suck!
Whether you're battling with full-on acne or one big zit, we know it can be devitalising. While some people may think it's just skin and you're over-exaggerating, we know your confidence can take a hit when the skin you live in is not the best it can be.
The struggle with acne is so real :(
When dealing with pimples, be it your first time or 10th year, we know it's so easy to panic and overdo it.
Sometimes, we reach for cleansers and scrub until our skin is raw, thinking if we get rid of all grime and oil, we'll finally be pimple free. (But those who have tried this know that your skin ends up being raw, red, sensitised, dry, and/or flaky.)
Other times, we exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate — because getting rid of the dead skin cells will clear up our skin, right? Unfortunately, not quite. Over exfoliating can lead to again, raw and sensitive skin or a damaged skin barrier.
In other cases, you may load on active ingredients or more hydrating products so your skin feels balanced and moisturised. If it's healthy and happy, acne won't appear. Alas... acne is a stubborn not-quite-friend that we may have.
All these trial and error options can leave you feeling utterly defeated.
So, what now?
A one-off pimple is good because it goes away. Although we understand that it can be all the more jarring to have a big, angry spot on your face, especially when you're not used to it. But we shan't complain!
Hormonal acne or recurring breakouts can cause pimples to stay on your skin for weeks, months, or even YEARS. It can truly feel debilitating and make you feel powerless.
But do not fear — with the right treatment plan in place, you can effectively minimise the appearance of acne, get rid of pimples, and prevent them from staying on your skin.
Apple Queen Beauty is a facial salon that specialises in acne solutions. The founder, Apple, used to struggle with not just acne-prone skin, but also sensitive skin. This means a lot of traditional acne solutions such as over-the-counter spot treatments, harsh facials, and skincare products often cause more harm than good.
Through studying, pursuing her craft, and years of experience, Apple has now helped hundreds of customers — even those with stubborn acne — go make-up free with confidence.

ZP is a student who was suffering from a bad bout of pimples across her face.
I've struggled with acne for years and nothing has seemed to work. It makes me feel less confident in my skin, especially as a student.
When she heard that Apple Queen Beauty specialises in acne facials, she decided to give facials another try.
This is how ZP's skin looked after her first facial:

While you can see a lot of redness from the thorough extractions, all the texturisation and active acne were successfully removed.
After her first facial, ZP's positive results encouraged her to return to Apple Queen Beauty. Spoiler alert: little did she know that it would be all she needed!
ZP's skin before her second facial at Apple Queen Beauty:

She was wearing a layer of makeup, but you can see that she had remarkably clearer skin after her first facial, with just some remaining bumps, spots, and texture on her face.
We always start with a deep clean
A good base is important for skin diagnosis and absorption of products.
Apple Queen Beauty has a facial menu, but they don't follow it blindly. They make sure to check each customer's skin to advise what they need most.
This is why ZP always has a 2-step cleanse at Apple Queen Beauty — one for makeup removal and one for removing dirt and sebum.
With clean skin, Apple is then able to accurately diagnose what customers need.
Extracting the gunk

As we said, it all starts with the base. On clean skin, it is time for extracting all the dirt, oil, and build-up.
Apple placed tissue over ZP's eyes as a bright lamp was brought over to illuminate her face for Apple to clearly see all impurities.
If extractions are not done well, the further treatment and products applied do not have as much efficacy as the root of the problem has not been dealt with.
Apple uses a combination of extraction tools including needles, extractors, and tissue-wrapped fingers. This allows for the gentlest extraction according to the type of pimple or bump on the skin.
Regular acne, whiteheads, and blackheads may be able to be easily pushed out using extractors. Deeper-set acne with inflammation and build-up may require a needle puncture for thorough extraction. Needles can also be used for pimples that have not come to a head, to squeeze out dirt, oil, or blood.
Fingers are often used for bigger bumps as well as on the nose for blackhead removal as it can scrape out oil effectively.
While many facial salons reserve 10-20 minutes for extractions, Apple Queen Beauty dedicates as much time needed for complete extractions for every single customer. This means extractions can even take up to 1-2 hours if needed! This is because they truly believe in clearing your skin once and for all.

During extractions, it is normal for your skin to feel hot — many customers even start sweating!
To calm the skin in live time, tissue with water or serum is placed on your skin while Apple continues with other areas.
While letting my skin rest after the extractions, I was also treated to complimentary eyebrow shaping. So efficient!
Calming the skin

No matter how gentle extractions are, you are still causing trauma to the skin as you puncture the skin surface. As your skin heats up from the activity, that can also cause sensitivity.
This is why it is important to bring down the temperature of the skin and nourish it after extractions.
Ampoule was applied to ZP's skin to nourish and hydrate it. To speed up absorption, therapeutic devices are used to increase air flow to the skin.
Mask, mask, mask
We continue with a flurry of face masks to continue cooling, calming, and hydrating the skin.

First up, Apple Queen Beauty's own aloe vera gel is used to soothe redness and discomfort. Traditional store-bought aloe vera is light and thin, but this proprietary product has a thicker consistency. It is richer in reparative properties, which has been proven in customers to help calm skin post-facial.
When comparing skin healing after facials, using or not using Apple Queen Beauty's aloe vera gel makes all the difference. Extraction scabs can heal in just 1-2 days as opposed to a week!
While ZP let the aloe vera mask sit on her skin,

she was treated to a neck and shoulder massage to relieve tension, relax, and increase blood flow.

Next up, Apple Queen Beauty's exclusive sheet mask to hydrate the skin, with the use of a cooling device to further reduce redness and lower skin temperature.
Massaging with this cold tool helps to relax the skin, improve circulation, and promote absorption. Not. to mention, it just feels so comforting after thorough extractions!
Last but not least, a soft mask was applied to calm down any remaining redness.
Sheet masks, if left on for too long, can start evaporating moisture from the skin into the environment, leaving you with skin that feels dry or tight.
Soft masks are superior to other masks because the thicker consistency creates an evaporation-free barrier to lock in hydration for deeply hydrated and calmed skin.

After 10-15 minutes, the mask firmed up and was ready to be removed. The skin can then be cleansed to complete the facial!

With all the steps taking to cool down the skin and reduce redness, ZP's skin was so calm after the entire process.
Most facials leave your skin feeling red and irritated, but because Apple Queen Beauty places such a strong emphasis on calming the skin down, the skin looks perfectly fine even after all those extractions!
